Barton Spector Wealth Strategies' advisors can work with you to understand your disability insurance options.  Disability insurance is a type of insurance that will provide you and your family with income in the event that you are not able to perform your work and earn your living due to a disabling event.  There are many types of companies that provide disability insurance with a plethora of options.  Each insurance company has specific rules as to what constitutes a disability and how a person might qualify to receive their disability benefit. 

Short term disability insurance policies offer you a portion of your salary if you are unable to work for a short period -- typically three to six months. 

Long term disability insurance offers you a portion of your salary if you are unable to work for a longer period of time -- typically periods of over six months.
